The starting point of an exchange

Student Visa:

If you would like to stay in France to continue your studies but your VLS-TS visa will expire soon, you may renew your residence permit by applying for a multi-annual residence permit (carte de séjour pluriannuelle). The application is not free.

You can apply either at the prefecture of the department where you live or at the prefecture of the department where your institution is located. To find the contact information for the prefecture.

The conditions of having your residence permit renewed are the same as those that apply to a first-time application, namely:

  • Be enrolled in a French institution of higher education;

  • Receive monthly resources of at least 615 euros.

In the case of renewal applications, you will also need to demonstrate the serious nature of your studies in France (attendance, exam results, diplomas obtained, etc.)

You will need to bring the following documents with you to the prefecture:

  • Your passport with your residence permit

  • A short birth certificate including the names of your parents (or a full copy of your birth certificate)

  • A certificate of enrolment for the coming year (Certificat de scolarité)

  • An academic transcript from the previous year

  • A document certifying that you have the financial resources necessary to continue your studies in France (i.e. 615 euros per month)

  • Proof of address dated within the last 3 months (e.g. electricity bill or lease),

  • Proof of health insurance (justificatif d’assurance Maladie, which you can download from your account on ameli.fr)

  • 3 passport-size photographs.

OFII: Validation of the visa

UPEC Administrative Registration:

Our Master has its own specific registration procedure which is coordinated by the Master’s (IES and DEIMP) International Coordinator of the Economics Department.

Each student will receive an email from the coordinator ending of July, then an appointment must be taken the day of your arrival (possible after mid-August) with the coordinator in order to finalize registration at the registration central service.

  • The first step of registration starts with the payment of CVEC through the following website: https://cvec.etudiant.gouv.fr/

  • The following steps of the registration will be sent by email.

This procedure will lead to the delivery of the “certificate de scolarité“. A very important document that stands for your student card (the proof of your student status).

Social Security:

Social security covers you throughout the year. Social security (compulsory) partially reimburses your health care costs (if you consult your doctor on a priority basis). In order to complete your refunds, you can subscribe to a health supplement (optional) which will cover certain costs remaining at your expense.

Since 2019, every student is affiliated with the general health assurance which is the “l’Assurance Maladie”  or called by other means “Caisse primaire d'assurance maladie”.

Social Security registration for French nationalities:

  • Simply create a personal account on ameli.fr and provide your bank details. If not already done, choose a general practitioner.

  • Ensure that your Personal Social Security Number (NIR) is registered with your Supplementary Health (if you take one).

Social Security registration for foreign nationality:

To register for Social Security in France, you must first register then Create your personal account on the website: etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr .

Registration is mandatory and free of charge and will entitle you to reimbursement of your health care expenses.

Complementary insurance:

You can subscribe to supplementary mutual insurance that will reimburse the remainder. This is not mandatory but is strongly recommended.

You can choose among the organizations like SMEREP or LMDE, they propose several complementary health insurance plans (« Mutuelle »). You must subscribe to the « Mutuelle » in order to benefit from the liability insurance.
